She was born in 1982 at Hunter Point on the Haida Gwaii Island, which loosly translated means “land of the Haida.” This island is off the coast of British Columbia, Canada in the Pacific Ocean and is more commonly known as Graham Island.

Both of her parents were full Haida, which is a Native American population found on the Northwest Coast of North America dominately in British Columbia and Alaska. They are known for being furoucious in sea battles and took to the water in long canoes very early on. Her father was primarily a fisherman and her mother made the best twined spruce root hats on the island, which tourists bought regularly. She has one brother four years older than her, but he ran away from home when she was eight and no body has heard about him since.
Her parents died when she was ten: her father from bad weather while out fishing and her mother closely followed due to illness. She then went to live with her aunt and uncle in Vancouver, British Columbia because her uncle was a prominent member of the Council of the Haida Nation. She eventually went on to study at Douglas University in New Westminster with a degree in Biology and then graduate school for her doctorate in medicine at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver.
Since getting her degree, she has been studying varying plants to discover new healing properties while at the same time, working in a small clinic outside of Vancouver. She has a son who was born in 1998, who mainly lives with her aunt and uncle. Her relationship with his father didn't end well and he walked out on his son two months after he was born. The last she heard, he was residing somewhere in Arizona.
She first realized that she was different just before her tenth birthday. She was in Haida Gwaii on a fishing trip with her father and she thought she heard the water talking to her. Exploring on her own, she realized that water would come to her if she just thought of it. However, a few months later, she was attending school and she was bullyied. This made her very angry and a storm appeared out of nowhere. Needless to say, this happened on her father's last fishing trip ever. She blamed herself for her father's death so she ignored the voices of the water and her power has layed dormant within her for eighteen years.
