The Angelheart Project. A joint scientific venture between the worlds brightest and wealthiest nations, Project Angelheart was a flight of fancy: "To embide the universe with incorporeal energy and forces through quantum invection." That was their goal. Pure idealism at work...at least until they astonished the world by announcing that they had succeeded. Superconcentrated energy for all mankind, endless and unlimited, and all generated with no pollution, no hazardous waste, and capable of being accessed all over the world by children and adults alike. But most important, it was free. At the end of the 21st century, the world was united in celebration. Mankind's dependence on fuels was gone. Gasoline, solar power, hydroelectric plants, all of them were out-of-date antiques. It was a new dawn. Magic was real.

But that dawn soon faded. With an unlimited supply ready to fulfill an eternal demand, the planet-wide energy industry died a quick and brutal death, cutting the economic throats of over a hundred nations who's primary export had been fossil fuels and green energy. Public and private transportation was paralyzed, currencty was worthless, and starvation ran rampant. Governments tried and failed to restore order by nationalizing the technology and limiting its production; the damage had been done.
