Ancient Ireland
A brief History:
[Only admins are allowed to see this image]

When the world was in its Making, most of the planet’s Makers had finished creating what is now Earth, and done it well, and then went away satisfied with Their work. However it seemed that some places on earth were besought by trouble and problems, a continental plate shifting when it shouldn’t, earthquakes sending what had been beautiful mountain ranges down into the depths of the ocean. The Powers themselves were at a loss to explain these things, though an underlying sense of…dark intervention often seemed to be the cause, as if some unknown force was purposely disrupting the Creators from finishing their work. Of these areas, the land of Ireland was one of the most troubling. Three times were sent People that could finish the job, and Three Times the making of Ireland was undone and the People corrupted, destroyed, or driven off. Indeed a Dark People, the Formori, had appeared to lay claim to Ireland at the same time as the great Nemedians (the Third Wave). At first the Nemedians were successful at driving the evil Formori from Ireland, but upon the death of their leader the Formori rose up and struck them down, enslaving and intermingling with their people until their virtue was lost. Centuries later, the Fir Blog (whom were descended from the Nemedians) landed on the shores of Ireland and attempted to take back the land from the Formori, but in fighting with them caught their dark sickness and were defeated and then enslaved as well.

Races that were pure and powerfully endowed with energy beyond mortality were overcome with a dark blackness that consumed them and destroyed not only their people, but the work they had wrought in The Creator’s name as well. Partholan and his people, The Nemedians, The Fir Blog…all were taken and corrupted by an unknown evil.

It was here that The Creator itself intervened. To Ireland It sent new forces, more senior Makers than had ever been to Ireland before and with greater strength, and descended from some of the original Makers Themselves. These were the Tuatha Dé Danann, well and fiercely armed, skilful in music and playing, the most gifted People that ever came across the sea. Then the Fir Blog were afraid, for the Tuatha De excelled all the other peoples of the world in every art. The Tuatha Dé Danann tried to barter with the Fir Blog, but they were too long tainted in the darkness and would not listen. Thus was began the First Battle of Magh Tuiredh. The Fir Blog were outnumbered, and soon the Tuatha Dé Danann claimed victory and sent the broken Fir Blog to a distant province of Ireland.

But all was not well. The Formori, ever watchful of the First Battle, saw that the Tuatha Dé Danann were weakened by their battle with the Fir Blog and began nurturing plans to attack and destroy them. Their time came when many years later Bres, a product of Formori and the Tuatha Dé Danann who had been raised as King of the Tuatha began a tyrannical rule to enslave and rule over his people. When he is finally disposed, he implores the Formiri leader Balor to help him take back his kingdom, and then together they bring war to Ireland once again.

However the Tuatha Dé, though smaller in number even with the next generation, the Sidhe, working with their Forefathers, manage to raise an army under a great Champion of the People, Lugh the Allcrafted. Together with the Smith of Falias (one of the original Tuatha Dé who came to Ireland from the Fourth City of Falias), Lugh helped to revive the great elemental Treasures: The Stone of Destiny or the Lia Fáil, The Sword Fragarach (The Answerer), The Cup or the Cauldron of Rebirth, and finally the Spear of Destiny, also known as the Spear of Luin, which was actually forged for Lugh himself. Within each mortal weapon was bound the immortal power of Earth, Wind, Water, and Fire, a terrible force to be reckoned with. In truth, the weapons used to wage war in Heaven had been embodied in the mortal world, as a last ditch effort to stop the Darkness once and for all. Thus was began the Second Battle of Magh Tuiredh. It is unclear how long the battle lasted; some say days, others say years, but the Tuatha Dé Dannan together with all of the warriors and poets and wizards of that age fought against Balor and his massive waves of Formori for the right to dominate Ireland's destiny. And so it was that admist the final days of the battle, when Balor seemed close to victory and the Treasures were waining, it was Lugh the Allcrafted who hefted his spear and plunged it into the Eye of Balor and killed him, sending the Formori fleeing in terror. Thus was won the Second Battle.

Finally the Makers, on the Creator's volition, were at last able to finish Their work and make Ireland whole at last. They paved the way for humanity to set about developing this world to fit Man's image, and the great Makers, Their work complete, had no choice but to leave Ireland forever. Which They did...for the most part.

Superhero Name: Amadaun (Celtic word for “Fool” or “Court Jester”)
Secret Identity: Terrence Riagáin
Gender: Male
Age: 23
Origin: Mythical Being (Half breed)
Background:
Amadaun was born as a result of the romance between a fully-embodied Sidhe woman and a moral man, resulting in his demi-godlike genetics and makeup. The Sidhe are a race of beings descended from the Tuatha De Dannan, who after the Second Battle of Magh Tuiredh and the completion of Ireland were supposed to return to the Creator to continue with the Making of the Universe. However these beings who had given so much of themselves into shaping Ireland fell in love with what they had made, and could not bring themselves to leave. Thus they asked the Creator to be released to live near their work (only a few universes over from ours) until the end of things, but not to interfere with mankind for whom the land had been made. This was granted, provided they honor the bargain with the Creator for all time. However occasionally one of the Sidhe would find their longing for the mortal world too great to bear, and so would in secret go to live amongst the mortals for brief centuries in order to bask in Ireland itself, but not interfere with mortal man. However so it came that in 1985, a Sidhe woman came upon a modern-day Hi-Tech hero named Eros and fell in love with him, and so strong was her love that she refused to honor the Bargain made so long ago and wished to remain on earth. Her people, the Sidhe were outraged and terribly afraid; if the Creator learned of this breach in the Bargain He may prevent them from ever returning to Ireland again, which was beyond damnation in their minds. This woman must be brought back to their universe before it was too late. They sent a mythical team of their people into the mortal world to find and bring back this accursed creature that threatened their place for existence, but Eros would not have it and attempted to fight them with the help of several of his fellow heroes. The battle was vicious and desperate, as the Sidhe could not kill any member of humanity for fear of breaking the Bargain but the humans had no such restrictions, and though severly less in strength had the potential to kill. However somehow in the fighting Eros was killed and in fear the Sidhe quickly called a truce, but the damage had been done. A mortal's death at the hands of those that were forbidden to interfere with their lives was beyond sin and the act drew the attention of the Creator's Champion, one of the greatest of the Makers. Though fierce, He was wise and upon speaking with both the Sidhe and a mortal representative his decision was thus: the Sidhe woman would remain in the mortal world, and the Bargain would not be broken. But the woman would strip her of her Power and leave her as nothing but a human being, and the way to the mortal universe would be cut off from the Sidhe's Universe for five hundred years. Thus was the battle ended, but what neither side knew was that the woman was in fact carrying Eros's child.

Amadaun was born in 1986, raised initially in Ireland until he was three years old when his mother moved the family to Lovettel, Vermont. He had a normal childhood, going first to Lovettel Elementary School until he reached the age of 15 when his grades qualified him for a scholarship at Marshalla Academy in Mountpelier, Vermont. He was bright but not ambitious or success oriented, preferring to live by his own standards as seen when in 2004 he graduated 9th in his class of 147 students. From there he entered Montpelier II University studying Physics and Business Management before graduating with honors in 2008. His powers first made their appearance during his freshman year at college when during a campus-wide orientation session he was nearly killed by drunk semi-truck driver that smashed on to the grounds going 85 miles an hour. Somehow he instinctively created a gateway and fell through it into the middle of the campus indoor pool, along with a large amount of debris from the crash. Nobody could ever explain how the truck's license plate and fender were found on the bottom of the swimming pool, which was located nearly 100 yards away from the scene of the accident.

Known Powers:
Gateway Creation (Application of Dimensional Travel) [7]
The hero with this power has the ability to generate a circular portal or “gateway” that is a visual and physical connection between two different locations in three-dimensional space. Neither end is specifically an entrance or exit; all objects that travel through one portal will exit through the other, and vice versa*. The gateways themselves follow the concept of "momentum redirection." As moving objects pass through a gateway, they come through the “exit” gateway at the same direction as the exit gateway is facing. This makes it possible to jump through the gateway and emerge moving in a different direction.

*Note: As he is not fully of the Sidhe race, creating a portal larger than what could accommodate his own body size and/or between two points further than 5 miles away can cost anywhere from 10-100 points of energy depending on chance, making it dangerous to do so.

Spellcasting [6]
Spellcasting is single-handedly one of the most desired magical powers a hero can have. For every 1 rank in this power, the hero may learn two spells of their choosing (of course pre-approved by administrators first.) This power allows for a multitude of actions and activities including the following (Energy cost varies with each):

Talents:
Total Ranks: 15

Chronicler of Magic [6]:The character studies magical societies and their activities. He/She has the ability for researching and/or knowing who the adepts and masters are, what their relationship is with each other and with any beings they entreat, and for any specific facts about most magical cults. A character with this talent may request information on any specific magical cult and it is the person responsible for creating the cult to provide this character with a rough set of stats via a private message (PM). +60 to popularity for every rank in this talent.

Quantum Physics [4]:The hero with this talent has a background in research and development into teleportation, wormholes, warp theory, and other types of travel theories. The hero can even start by creating a new specialty field of his/her own. The hero gains a +10 to popularity and a +2 to reason for every 3 ranks in this talent. In addition if the hero possesses any of the following powers: Dimension Travel, Gateway, Teleport Self, Teleport Others, or Telereformation, these are raised by +2 ranks for every rank in this talent.

*+Specialty Weapon [5]
Iarr
Short for “Iarracht le Céad” or “First Attempt”
-Amadaun uses a plain wooden staff as way to supplement his presence in battle rather than only rely on his powers. It is very old, allegedly one of the “toys” created by the Smith of Falias in his later years after his craft and skill forged the Four Treasures brought to Ireland by the Tuatha Dé Danann. A family heirloom given to him by his mother, the staff itself has no real power (as yet revealed in its millennia of existence at least), but it does not break and seems to help focus his energy when attempting to use his gateway abilities.

Weaknesses:
1.) Using his Gateway Creation power can cost a lot of energy, depending on the diameter, distance between gateways, and length of time a gateway needs to remain open. Working on the idea of a magically-induced ad-hoc quantum tunnel, in an intense battle the hero’s energy can deplete at an alarming rate. If his energy runs out, his health points will suffer double the price for each Gateway Creation and can even kill him if the cost is too great.

2.) Amadaun is not totally of the Sidhe race, indeed a portion of his genetic makeup is half-human. As such, his own superhuman powers do not sit well with a mortal body as their vessel. Creating gateways rapidly/continuously for long periods of time, or else having to create said gateways under extreme duress (either from his environment or from his own personal status) begins to break down his body and cause serious harm. Organ failure, muscle breakdown, and temporary dementia all can happen if such circumstances go on too long. This in itself sponsors a lack of control over gateway creation altogether, sometimes randomly changing the location, size, and indeed manifestation of gateways at random, making him unpredictably dangerous the closer to death he becomes.
